Beach Bash Going Home – Always a bittersweet time. It’s been great again this year. Next year will be year 19 and will be same place. The weekend after July 4th so moves from starting on July 5th to July 11th.
On the way home, about 150 miles south, stopped to take another picture of the Mississippi River. A bit larger when the river gets here.
Think I’ve been on this drive too many times. Don’t see anything that would fit with the blog post. Next time, I need to follow the Great River Road to get more scenery. Saw lots of trees! Saw lots of water! Driving alone was good. By the way, here is a link to another drive on the Mississippi.
Did you know that blogs are typically reader supported? So, buy me a hot chocolate! Or not!.
Beach Bash Going Home 2018
Ok, we are done. Had a great time. Good attendance but missed 5 or 6 people. Looking forward to….
Beach Bash 2019
Gotta go again! Focus on everyone being there again. Aim for every single family member.
Beach Bash History
The extended family gets together at Christmas every year. In 2001, a granddaughter of my mother and father-in-law decided the family should do a get together in summer as well. Since she lived in Detroit Lakes at the time, decided to go there. The first few years we hung out on the beach and stayed in hotels and resorts in different parts of this northern MN lake town. The permanent population is about 8,000. Summer weekends it doubles or triples. Independence Day weekend, probably multiple of 4 or 5.
We Fest
The first weekend in August is the “We Fest”, a country music festival. Every year some of the biggest names in country music show up to perform. Alabama was the very first band to perform in 1983 when the festival got its start. The it was called “WE in ’83”, followed by “More in ’84” and by “Alive in ’85”. Other names that have appeared include: Jason Aldean, Big & Rich, Brooks & Dunn, Kenny Chesney, Carrie Underwood, Eric Church, Florida Georgia Line, Rascal Flatts, Vince Gill, Merle Haggard, Faith Hill, Toby Keith, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roger Miller, Martina McBride, Tim McGraw, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Charley Pride, Brad Paisley, Kid Rock, Blake Shelton, George Strait, Taylor Swift, Tanya Tucker, Keith Urban, Tammy Wynette, Trisha Yearwood and many more.
Occasionally, an act that isn’t really country sneaks in but they are usually “cross over” artists.
Want to see a shop for my road trip photos? You can have them printed as wall art or puzzles. They also work on coffee mugs, t-shirts and more! So, take a look. Maybe you'll see something you will like!
Water Carnival
The Detroit Lakes Water Carnival is also a draw for the area. The Carnival is now in it’s 83rd year. The city really wants to be known as a Minnesota Beach town. https://www.visitdetroitlakes.com/events/water-carnival
But, I digress…..
Back on topic (Beach Bash Going Home)
The recent relocation to Bemidji was a welcome change as it gave the family new experiences and new opportunities to have the “Bash” take on a new life. How about a look at the following year?
