Bob Seger Farewell Tour
Monday
Takin’ a trip to Des Moines for the Bob Seger Farewell Tour. Never got around to seeing him perform until now. Saw the Des Moines show posted about 18 months ago and thought for sure that he’d come to Minnesota. Waited… Waited… Bought tickets for October 2017… Next day announced a St. Paul concert. Then, hurt his back and postponed the tour. Back surgery. Recovery. Finally, after having my $300 for tickets tied up for 18 months, we get to see the show!

Not in a hurry to get here so didn’t get going until afternoon. Had an exotic meal in Des Moines (Jimmy John’s) and got our room. Tomorrow, a bit of sightseeing and the show! But wait! I’ve been in Iowa on another trip covered in this blog! (During Day 10 of the Great River Road trip. See link below)
Did you know that blogs are typically reader supported? So, buy me a hot chocolate! Or not!.
Tuesday
First, a link about the show.
Iowa State Capitol
Next, did some sightseeing. Lunch at a quaint bar/lounge. Great food. State Capitol viewing. Pictures from the Capitol area.

Want to see a shop for my road trip photos? You can have them printed as wall art or puzzles. They also work on coffee mugs, t-shirts and more! So, take a look. Maybe you'll see something you will like!

Bob Seger Concert
…and on to the Bob Seger Farewell Tour concert! Comment on the weather here today: “Runnin’ Against the Wind”.
Pictures from the concert aren’t good as we couldn’t use flash. My interpretation is that it is illegal to post pictures on websites anyway. Video and/or audio recordings are clearly not allowed. (I’m just saying this from internet searches. To be sure, contact an attorney if you really want to post pictures or videos. It’s a copyright “thing” according to what I read.)
Great concert! Farewell tour (but we’ve heard that from a lot of performers). (This concert was postponed from the end of 2017 due to a vertebrae problem in his neck. He had surgery and after about six months of recovery decided to continue the tour. Originally scheduled for October 7, 2017, this one was held on November 27, 2018.
He performed most of his hits and did a few recent songs as well. He did a touching performance for a song he wrote when Glenn Frey died. (Glenn Frey of the Eagles. Seger was his mentor in the early years in Detroit.)
Post wouldn’t be complete without a set list!

Great time at the Bob Seger Farewell Tour!
Wednesday
Trip home from Bob Seger Farewell Tour. Stopped in Ames IA for lunch. Found a British pub there. (A British pub in Ames IA???) Named “The Mucky Duck”. Interestingly, there is a Mucky Duck in Captiva FL as well Here is a link. The people in Ames say theirs is better! The one in Captiva has a view of the Gulf of Mexico. The view from the one in Ames has a view across the road! Interesting story of the name. In Great Britain, one of the commonest names for pubs is “The Swan”. Of course, swans are white so some owners named their pub The Black Swan. Over time, The Black Swan acquired a nickname of “The Mucky Duck”!
The food was very good and we moved on.

As I said above, food was great, atmosphere was great and a great stopping point.
But, of course, all trips have some down moments. As we approached the Twin Cities we ran into snow, freezing rain and rush hour. The unholy trinity. But…. took it in stride and got home about an hour or so later than in “normal” weather. (If there is “normal” weather in Minnesota!)
See you next post!
(As I said on the last post, I’m on a bit of a hiatus for the holidays, resolving some blogging issues, learning some new skills, and planning the types of posts I’ll do in the future. (I can’t travel enough to post 2 or 3 days a week!)

When I originally commented I clicked the “Notify me when new comments are added” checkbox and
now each time a comment is added I get several e-mails with the same comment.
Is there any way you can remove people from that service?
Thanks!
I turned off comments for this post. If you still get messages, let me know and I’ll try something else.
Its such as you read my thoughts! You seem to understand so much approximately
this, like you wrote the ebook in it or something.
I feel that you simply could do with a few % to force
the message house a little bit, however other than that, that is wonderful blog.
An excellent read. I will certainly be back.
You actually make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this topic to
be really something that I think I would never understand.
It seems too complicated and extremely broad for me.
I am looking forward for your next post, I’ll try to get the hang of
it!
I used to work in Des Moines, but have never seen the memorials you visited! The woman in the “Iowa Women” memorial looks very fierce! Your concert sounds like a great nostalgia trip – glad you finally were able to go.
