Do you want to discover Kansas biodiversity? Visit the Kansas Wetland Education Center near Great Bend, Kansas. We visited here after leaving Ellinwood. That’s a change after staying in a haunted hotel and visiting the underground area of a small town! (Go back to look here if you want more information about Ellinwood. Don’t worry; you can quickly get back here again!) Following along here, you’ll find another reason Kansas is more than just dusty plains and cattle!

Much of the land here looks like the above. You’ll also see open water, which looks like a lake, but read on in the next section. The education center has meeting rooms for teaching and displays about the wetlands. Here’s the link to the website.

The Kansas Wetlands Education Center focuses on the Cheyenne Bottoms Wetlands.
Did you know that blogs are typically reader supported? So, buy me a hot chocolate! Or not!.
Click on this link from the Center’s website to get a broad view of the building and its surroundings.
The two pictures on the bottom center and bottom right show open water. It looks like a lake but averages just over one foot deep. In the driest summers, it’s been known to go nearly dry.

Classic Rock Recollection
“Mother Nature’s Son” by The Beatles
Born a poor young, country boy
Mother Nature’s son
All day long, I’m sitting, singing songs for everyone
Sit beside a mountain stream
See her waters rise
Listen to the pretty sound of music
As she flies
