I’ve made a few road trips in my time as a travel blogger, and I’m sharing how to enjoy an ultimate road trip scoreboard. I have blog posts about some of the trips. Some statistics about the trips are included here. Up front, the focus will be on visiting all 50 states and other places I’ve visited, such as National Parks and US Presidential sites. The post (link here) that gets too deep into the weeds for all but the most dedicated road trippers! And that one is “all about me…!” If you want more information about doing your own scoreboard, I’m willing to give you my two cents’ worth… or maybe a nickel’s worth!

Scorecard (for Ultimate Road Trip Scoreboard):
- States visited (50X2) + 30
- That means I completed all 50 states in 1987, in New York
- Then in 2014, I “started over” and completed all 50 again in January 2023 in Hawaii!
- Since January of 2023, I’m currently at (see above) for my third trip around the sun!
- US Counties visited, 1358 of 3144!
- Road trips of ten days or more taken as part of The Driveby Tourist
- Great River Road in 2017 – From the source in northern Minnesota to Natchez, Mississippi.
- Route 66 in 2018 – Chicago to Santa Monica
- Eastern road trip in 2021 – “26 States in 26×2 days”
- Kansas, Colorado & Utah in 2022 – Visit family, attend niece’s wedding, visit Utah National Parks
- Kansas in 2023 – for two back-to-back trips in 2023
- Presidents and Parks in 2025 – Visited 16 states in 42 days primarily to see National Parks and US Presidential sites.
- Presidential Museum and Library sites – 8
- Other Presidential sites – 12
- National Parks – 9
- Other National Park Service sites – 11
- Great River Road Plus in 2026 – Visited the south end of the Great River Road from Natchez, MS, to the Gulf of Mexico south of New Orleans.
- National Park sites – 21
- All Fifty Club Annual Conference in 2026 – Planned – Visit 13 eastern states around Philadelphia conference.
